We specialize in backcountry exploration of Greenland. Though local tours provide a good glimpse of attractions around Ilulisaat, there is much more to discover about Greenland- from local flora & fauna to some seldom visited locations that are not part of standard tour packages. We do this at a lower cost than other tour providers by keeping the group size per trip small. This also enables us to customize trips based on the group’s requirement. For the more adventurous, we offer snowmobiling and dog – sledding tours. Bring your sense of adventure and let us show you what Greenland has to offer. 

Our guides personally scout and research locations around Ilulisaat. From trails leading to magnificent icebergs, remote fishing huts, Inuit villages and spotting wildlife, we strive to provide a safe and authentic adventure that Greenland backcountry has to offer. All camp duties i.e. setting/breaking camp, cooking and cleaning are equally shared among the group members. Greenland Backcountry strongly adheres to leave no trace principles on their trips to preserve our natural landscapes. 

On multi-day hiking trips, accommodation is in shared camping tents. We also provide personal tents upon request. For people who would like to stay in a hut (where one is available) we can arrange it at an additional price. Food – on short day trips (5-6 hours) hot drinks such as coffee, tea and hot chocolate are provided with a lunch sandwich. Dinner on multi-day trips will include a stew/soup followed by a hearty meal of whole grain dishes and a something for the sweet tooth.  In case of dietary restrictions or special diet needs, please let us know when you book the trip.

Submit the booking form or email us at info@greenlandbackcountry.com with your request.Once all requirements have been gathered, 25 % of total trip cost as advance payment is required to confirm the trip. We accept wire-transfers and credit card payments. After trip confirmation we will send you further information to help you prepare for the trip.

We know cancellations happen. However, we start making all preparations as your trip approaches. If the trip is cancelled with notice before 30 days of trip start date, a 10 % service fee of total trip cost is charged. For cancellations between 30 – 14 days of trip start date, a 25 % service fee is charged. Between 14 – 7 days of trip start date, a 50 % service fee is charged. No refunds are offered if a trip is cancelled within 7 days of start date. In the event that Greenland Backcountry cancels a trip due to operational or safety reasons full refund is offered. In cases of events that are outside the control of Greenland Backcountry, we will make all reasonable efforts to arrange an alternate itinerary. Should this not be possible we will offer a full refund. We strongly recommend our guests to have some buffer days for weather delays.
